Time for Computers to Boot Up Is Compensable

That’s what a federal appellate court said in a case involving call center workers. It took up to 20 minutes for their computers to boot up before they could log on and begin talking to customers. Because the boot up time was integral to their jobs, they should be paid for it. They couldn’t do their job—receiving calls and scheduling appointments for customers—until the computers were ready to go. #IdeaoftheDay
