According to SiteLock, website attacks on small businesses rose by 59% in 2018, averaging 62 attacks per day. Though there was a significant uptick in the overall number of attacks, “noisy” attacks that are easy to spot (like website defacements) continued to drop in popularity this past year. “Noisier” attacks call attention to cybercriminals’ malicious activity, so bad actors are turning to quieter, symptomless malware attacks that allow attackers to subtly view, modify or steal content and data from victims’ websites often leaving business owners unaware.
