The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) last year issued standardized revenue reporting rules for all businesses (public and private) in all industries. Under a proposed deferral of the effective date, the new rules would be used for annual statements of private companies for 2019 (public companies must begin to use the new rules for 2018 statements). Businesses should check with their CPAs to determine whether changes are needed to their accounting systems.
